When Should You Replace Tennis Strings

Tennis strings don’t just break — they also lose performance over time, even if they still look fine.

As a general rule, if you play once or twice a week, you should consider restringing every 2–3 months. More frequent players may need to restring monthly, while occasional players might go longer, but the feel of the racket will still change over time.

Common signs it’s time for a restring include:

  • The racket feels “dead” or lacks power
  • You’re losing control on shots you normally make
  • The strings feel uneven or start to notch
  • You’ve had a break or there is a partial fray

Fresh strings can make a bigger difference to your game than most equipment changes, so it’s worth keeping on top of them.
